OF ALL RELIGIOUS RELICS, the reputed burial cloth of Jesus Christ, the Shroud of Turin, is without a doubt one of the most mystifying objects in existence. Sepia-yellow in color, the imprint of a man’s body is seen on this 8 ft. linen cloth. The body was that of an adult male, nude, with beard, mustache, and long hair falling to the shoulders. Height is estimated at between 5 ft. 9 in. to 5 ft. 11 in., weight at 165-180 lb., age at 30 to 45 years. Even with today’s technology, critics have been unable reproduce the 3-D image. The image exhibits great regality and peace. The Shroud of Turin remains a mysterious gift, accessible only by an act of faith. Something about the Turin Shroud reinforces a spiritual faith in things unknown, unprovable by Science and unexplained by man. In 1984, acclaimed portrait artist Stan Stevenson was commissioned by an authority of the Catholic Church to create a true likeness of this man imaged in the Shroud. Mr. Stevenson was supplied with rare computer-enhanced photographs of the Shroud that virtually eliminated all distortions. It is not our intention to claim authenticity for the Shroud, but, if it is indeed authentic, and there is a growing belief among scientific investigators that it is, then the portrait of the face in the Shroud painted by Mr. Stevenson is that of Jesus Christ. About the Artist: Stan Stevenson began his career over 40 years ago. His paintings hang in some of the finest galleries and in both public and private collections. He began his formal art studies in his native England; then crossed the channel to study academic painting methods at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris.
